The exhibit Somewhere In Between is a continued exploration of diverse media including the shaped canvases synonymous with Tarantino's work from the past decade and other. Tarantino’s sculptural forms continue to reflect positive and negative spaces within urban architecture and/or natural surroundings. This exhibit includes two bodies of work both incorporating themes of time, space and how the individual moves within these.

In her landscape paintings Tarantino reminiscences about childhood memories of weekends on the family farm exploring vast landscapes of snow during winter months. These scenes look both at solitude and playful moments of interaction with nature during stages of childhood innocence. The crows are meant to represent awareness of both positive and negative aspects of the world into adulthood. They silently watch over the children in each piece, waiting. The pieces speak about being in a state of passage, an "In Between" if you will.

Tarantino also introduces new mixed media collaborations with partner, artist Ross Bonfanti with the Sway series. These panels incorporate screen printed imagery of city dwellers casually interacting and everyday occurrence in a contemporary urban setting. Imagery of figures is repeatedly printed to the point of obscurity where figures, vehicles and other forms are reduced to pattern. Hand painted animals are incorporated in the Make Believe What You Want pieces, reflecting the hidden nature and desire within us.

Tarantino’s intentions are to dynamically and intimately engage the viewer within each piece so that it is viewed from various vantage points with a constantly changing experience from one angle to another.

Working as a painter and sculptor, Sandra Tarantino (born in 1973, Toronto, Canada) is a graduate of Ontario College of Art and Design and participated in the off-campus Florence program. Her artwork is represented in various private and corporate collections across Canada, USA and Europe. She is a recipient of the 2008 Visual Artist Grant from the Ontario Arts Council.
