“Our numbers, measures and labels carry social and cultural benefits or restrictions, which often determine our relationship with the world. One word, one label carries a series of assumptions that, depending on the viewer’s gaze, will bring them to liberating or reactionary conclusions.” (Swangha, 2005)

Counted, Measured, Labelled is a captivating exhibition of vibrant abstractions. Layered with constructed and found objects, inspired by wood etching and printmaking techniques and through her juxtaposition of colours and textures, this series appeals to both the visual and tactile sensibilities. Marisa Swangha’s approach is one that explores and redefines the multitude of various methods and languages that are used to categorize the human form.
