Portals and Bioscapes

Lower Level

Lilly's sculptural work illustrates the multitude of intricate textures, colours and forms found in the fabric of biological landscapes, reflecting her continuous inspiration by nature. Her utilization of various metals and woods, as well as glass and mirror systems contributes to the interplay of light and shadow integral to the work. One of the main concepts explored in Lilly's work is how these ever-changing biological forms embody dynamic phenomena created by the inter-relatedness of organic and inorganic matter. New to this latest series is the addition of homegrown crystals. Lilly also implements live plants in her artwork in an exploration of the idea of sustainable art that grows and changes over time.  Although ideas originate in nature, her work is taken out of the literal descriptive context. It assumes outlines that echo Lilly's interest in the endless cycle of being - the renewal and flow of energy through portals and pathways of different levels of existence...

"The series is titled Lady Things and each one is just that, a sort of feminine entity that hovers between a lady and a creature or even an object. I wanted to create something that acted more like a vessel within and upon which I could layer various iconic projections of the feminine.

I am interested in patterns and textures that carry with them the baggage of a sort of mythological ideal; all at once exalted, yet simultaneously hysteric; romantic to the point of ridiculousness. There is also this oscillation from beauty to the grotesque and horror to fantasy...
